Are you an outstanding maths teacher ready to step into a middle-leader role? Could you coach and grow a small department, and create and implement strategies which will enthuse students in your subject?
Yes? We know you will be in demand. So what makes this school different, and why would you want to continue your career here?
You will lead the maths department within a small secondary academy in rural Derbyshire. The faculty currently teaches across key stage 3 and 4, with four full time teachers and plans to increase staff numbers (and potentially review the faculty structure) as the academy grows. You will have brand new facilities and be supported by an experienced senior leadership team who have a clear vision. The school is supported by a small multi-academy trust, with an ethos which is committed to increasing opportunities for young people though links with businesses and developing a curriculum which teaches practical employability skills.
This is a fantastic position for someone who is passionate about making a real difference to the local community, and can relate the maths curriculum to real life. Students enter year 7 at a good level, but are not always confident in their own abilities so will need you and your team to show them their potential. You will probably have coached other members of staff before, and bring this skill with you to develop the dedicated teachers within your department; in line with other department heads, you will get stuck into a teaching timetable and therefore be able to lead from the front.
There are lots of opportunities here: raising attainment, coaching and development, and a senior leadership team with open ears to your ideas and keen to support the development of your department and of your own career.
We would like to hear from you and to discuss your experience, including:

Your teaching career in maths ks3 and 4, and your success in observations.

  • How you have prepared for, or are currently performing in, a middle leadership role.
  • When you have coached other teachers.
  • Your ideas around raising expectations, aspirations and outcomes of staff and students under your guidance.
