Do you have experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?

Celsian Education are seeking a resilient and energetic Teaching Assistant to work with a child with ASD and ADHD, on a long term basis (reviewed week by week) at a school in Derby city. The schools we work with provide quality education to give children the foundations to set them up for life. Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their potential and Teaching Assistants are vital to the overall learning and development of pupils at schools, tailoring their approach to optimise learning opportunities.

Upon successful registration, we would be looking to interview within first 3 weeks following half term, depending on how long it takes for the right person for the role to been found.

The School - Derby

Celsian Education is working on behalf a friendly and supportive school in Derby city, whose aim is to do the best they can for children of all abilities by providing a safe and stimulating environment, where children feel happy and supported in their learning. The school is very focused on ensuring that their children are supported as much as possible, so you would not be the only teaching assistant in the class, although you would be responsible for the 1:1 support of the child. The school places emphasis on ensuring that children are nurtured in becoming confident and enthusiastic towards learning, priding themselves on their positive approach to learning and development, ensuring that pupils are given the skills which enable them to succeed in an inclusive setting.

Person Specification - Teaching Assistant (1:1) - Autism/ADHD - Derby

The successful applicant will have relevant experience of working with children within a care/education environment or hold relevant qualifications in supporting teaching; hold strong literacy and numeracy skills and have sufficient skills in working with Autism/ADHD. The boy in question is easily distracted so we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive and engaging, to ensure that the attention of the child is engaged at all times.

Successful Applicants will be subject to references and an up to date DBS with update service or be willing to apply for a new DBS.

About the Role - Teaching Assistant (1:1) - Autism/ADHD - Derby

The role is working 1:1 with a Year 1 boy with ASD/ADHD on a 5 full day per week basis. The boy in question is working to a part-time timetable (finishes at 1pm), but you would be utilised in other areas to make up the hours. The child, as expected can be challenging and may become slightly physical, so you will have to have the resilience and firmness to succeed. As working with children with ASD relies on a positive relationship being built, this role will be initially review on a week by week basis.
