Do you have a talent in building relationships with pupils who are struggling to engage with their education?

Are you experienced in supporting Social Emotional Mental Health?

Celsian Education is working in partnership with a with specialist school in Barnsley to recruit a calm and caring behaviour mentor to work on a one to one basis with pupils with challenging behaviour. This role will start after February half-term and last until the end of the academic year, with the potential for extension or even a permanent contract.

The school is looking for people who understand the needs of their students and who have proven ability to de-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm and safe manner. You will be working with students across Key Stage 3 and 4 aged 11 - 16, all students have been excluded from mainstream education and are supported and encouraged back into mainstream education.

Resilient and strong behaviour management skills are essential, as well as proven experience of supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, preferably in a Secondary or SEN school environment. Experience working within a Pupil Referral Unit or a similar setting would be advantageous.

We are looking for hard working individuals who are confident and happy working with challenging behaviour in an educational setting, you will need the following experience to be a successful candidate.

Having the Team Teach qualification is beneficial but not essential.

Requirements

- Psychology Degree or Level 3 Teaching Assistant

- Experience working with SEMH pupils

- Worked with young people with challenging behaviour

- Have experience with early intervention

- Beneficial to have worked as a one-to-one teaching assistant
