Celsian Education are working with a special school based in Bury who are looking for inspiring Teaching Assistants specialising in Social Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) to work with a number of pupils who need additional support and nurture.

Are you passionate about supporting the learning of all students? Can you help to create a positive environment for vulnerable young people?

The role of a Teaching Assistant will require you to work on one a one- to-one basis with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. You will promote positive behaviour and ensure the young person has access to learning, whilst also being involved in raising attainment and developing social skills. This position is specifically for an approachable TA that has experience dealing with young people either in a mainstream or SEND setting who have additional needs that lead to challenging behaviour. Team Teach or similar de-escalation and positive handling training would be beneficial.

This small independent special school is part of group of provisions and caters for secondary students with SEMH and provides a safe and happy space for all young people, with a focus on to re-integrating pupils into education. They aim to offer a high quality bespoke educational service to all.

You will be working closely with a class teacher and supportive staff team, making this the ideal role for an experienced and enthusiastic TA looking for a new challenge.

To be successful in the Teaching Assistant role you will need;

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH
  • Strong behaviour management
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good knowledge of numeracy and literacy
  • A flexible approach and positive attitude
