At Celsian Education, we work closely with SEND settings across Leeds and have been approached to recruit for an Educational Psychologist for this split-site Special School in Leeds that has been recently rated as Outstanding by Ofsted for the third time running.

This highly rewarding and predominantly setting-based role which would involve the observation, assessment and strategy recommendation for the pupils on roll as well as offer training recommendation to help upskill existing staff. There is also a possibility that you would have to travel locally to visit service-users/pupils in their homes.

About the role:

The role focuses on the following responsibilities:

  • Assessing learning and emotional needs by observing and consulting with multi-agency teams to advise on the best approaches and provisions to support learning and development.
  • Developing and supporting therapeutic and behaviour management programmes;
  • Advising, persuading, supporting and negotiating with teachers, parents and other education professionals.
  • Developing and applying effective interventions to promote psychological well-being, social, emotional and behavioural development, and to raise educational standards.
  • Writing reports to make formal recommendations on action to be taken, including formal statements.
  • Prioritising effectiveness, the context and environment that influence the child's development are seen as increasingly important.

Working Hours would follow a standard nine to five requirement but with the addition of occasional twilight training and pupil-parent meetings after school hours.

About you:

The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, be patient and engaging but also operate with tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity. You will be working with some challenging individuals and emotional situations and will have to be able to react promptly and appropriately to ensure the pupils needs are met first and foremost. Team Teach Training and Experience Teaching or working in Schools is preferable but not essential.

Qualifications needed:

  • An undergraduate degree in psychology. Alternatively, if you do not have a psychology degree you can complete a BPS accredited conversion course. You will then achieve the required Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC);
  • A BPS accredited Doctorate in educational psychology (it is essential you are registered with the HCPC and have completed a Doctorate in Educational Psychology (or equivalent) approved by the HCPC

Salary:

Ranges from £35K - £47K per annum depending on seniority
